For those of you that are Folk music fanatics, it’s time to grab your dancing shoes, throw on your sunglasses and plan your trip to one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. In the past, this long held event used to be known as the National Folk Festival, but after sponsors pulled their funds, event organizers of Montana decided to keep this music tradition alive with what will now be known as the Montana Folk Festival. According to press releases, visitors can expect all the same fun, family and folk bands of previous years, with an extra tang of the Montana spirit.
The Montana Folk Festival 2011 is expected to exceed the expectations of those who have attended the National event in the past. Held at the Historic Landmark District of Butte, this music extravaganza will feature multiple stages with live performances by some of the best traditional musical performers in the nation, including Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Blue Highway and Stephanie Davis. There are already over 20+ artists lined up with more on the way. As for food, there will be a large number of vendors serving everything from the familiar favorites of hot dogs and pizza to the unique taste of ethnic staples such as Gyros and Povitica. The wide variety of culinary delights is sure to please the pallets of everyone attending the event. A full day of food, music and fun, what more can you ask for?
Along with the music and food, the event will also have other entertainment to help keep the day filled with excitement and fun. This includes a Festival Marketplace, the Montana Folk Life Area and a Family Area for kids or adults to enjoy a day of creative learning with arts and crafts. Last year’s event included candle making, gold panning and a scavenger hunt, attracting hundreds of visitors from throughout the greater Montana and surrounding areas. With the beautiful scenery of Butte and family fun of the festival, this is one weekend event that you will not want to miss!
